AX2012 – Task recorder update
Within this post I will inform you about an update for AX2012. Microsoft recently released an updated version of the Task recorder as a hotfix. This is done with Knowledge Base article 2863182. There are two updates available: One for AX2012 and one for AX2012R2.
This update is released because of the Business process modeler (life cycle services) integration. With this update it is possible to generate artifacts that can be uploaded to Business process modeler in Lifecycle Services for Microsoft Dynamics AX.
The Task recorder was used to create documentation for business processes or reproduction scenarios quickly. Within the update also a video recording is generated. You can use this to show how to perform a task. Also the video can be used for reproduction scenarios as well.
When you have downloaded the update, you have to install both a kernel update and an application update.
The updated Task recorder now has two modes:
- Basic mode: This mode generates a Word document and a video recording of the selected business processes in a predefined shared folder.
- Advanced mode: The advanced mode captures additional metadata which can be uploaded to the Business process modeler. Within a package file a hierarchy, process, Application Object Tree (AOT) metadata, and also the word document and recorded video is then generated.
You need to specifiy a shared folder for storing the documents. Also a template file for the word document can be used optional.
Within the basic mode you can just click the Start button and start executing your tasks. Prior to this you can also create nodes in advance for structuring topic into a hierarchy.
When you stop the recording the word document and video registration will be saved in a directory within your shared folder.
For the advanced mode you have to setup Industries, Framework and Hierarchy levels. Within the levels you can indicate if the recording mode is basic or advanced.
You can prepare the hierarchy levels you want to use in an Excel sheet and import it into the Task recorder form. When recording more artifacts are captured to be used in the Business Process Modeler. When you have completed the recordings, you can generate a package file.

Still possible to record with english language settings, change the language settings to other language, restart the AX, and first then generate the document in the later selected language ?
That was possible in ealier versions – but I have not had succes yet.
Kind regards
