Licensing Advent Calendar – Day 28 – Community shout-out!

Licensing Advent Calendar

While we had a journey from the end of March until now, there were many changes and questions related to the upcoming license enforcement. Not only did I try to help by blogging, answering questions, and providing feedback to Microsoft. There are some other people who deserve a shout-out for their contributions to this topic within the community.

In case I missed someone, feel free to contact me and provide details about their contributions.

Personal blogs

During the year, there were several blog posts about the upcoming license enforcement. A lot of them were from companies that created offerings to help customers get compliant. Let’s thank some users who did try to help the community with meaningful information without directly offering their services.

Alex Meyer

Alex is USA-based, and we consider ourselves as the “security-twins” on Dynamics 365 F&O. He is also an active Microsoft MVP. We both have a deep passion for the Dynamics 365 F&O security architecture. He definitely did a great job by not only writing about this topic, but also presenting at events, both in-person and virtual. We also did one webinar for the Pakistan User group together: Navigating the D365 F&O Licensing Changes What You Need to Know and Do !

Here is a list of his licensing related blogs:

Fatih Demirci

Fatih is a Microsoft MVP from Turkey. He sometimes blogs about security and did share a blog post about how to read the Licenses Usage Summary page in Dynamics 365 F&O:

Viva Engage & Office Hours – User License Reporting

For the User Security Governance, but also User License Reporting (preview), there were groups available on Viva Engage groups. In these groups, there were a lot of interactions with Microsoft, asking questions, providing feedback, and people trying to help each other.

Microsoft hosted weekly office hours to provide information about the roadmap and upcoming fixes. There was also the opportunity to provide feedback and ask questions. I hardly missed any episode, as this was a direct source of information and an opportunity to get the most recent updates. For me, it was 5 PM local time on Friday. I enjoyed the sessions where we had great learnings and interactions.

Some people to mention…

Microsoft

There are some people from Microsoft who drove the licensing enforcement updates. They were introducing the new license calculation as a microservice, hosting office hours, and taking all feedback very seriously. Yes, there were some inconvenient issues as part of several releases, but they were keen on solving it at soon as possible. Also, the licensing enforcement is software that can come with bugs. I want to thank the whole team, but especially Ian Ceicys, Henrique Yagi, and Saurabh Kuchhal. Saurabh and Ian even participated voluntarily in the Dynamics 365 Licensing series hosted by Dynamics User Group (see below).

Other participants

There were a few people who were visible during the period when we had interactions via Viva Engage and the Office hours. The first person I want to give a shout-out to is Brad Bateman. He brought in a lot of feedback, and as mentioned in the blog about licensing tables, he also shared SQL statements combining the license tables in meaningful information: GitHub – batetech/batetech.d365fo.public

Next to Brad, the next people who deserve to be mentioned are: Carla Simonson, Monika Reiter, Czesia Langowska, Kateryna Domina, Stef Meurs, Sven Joos, Thibault Bruggeman, and Daisuke Kobayashi. Thank you for all the questions, feedback, and interactions. In case I missed someone, or you want to be removed from the list, please contact me.

Dynamics 365 Licensing series

The Dynamics User Group started with licensing series webinars, where presenters are a mix of partners, customers, Microsoft, and community experts. The series began in October 2025 and is organized monthly to provide updates, thoughts, and answer questions. Let’s thank the next people who volunteered in these webinars: Alex Meyer, Bobby Small, Ian Ceicys, Mo Baygi, Saurabh Kuchhal, Steve Goodwin, and Tom Dockstader.

P.S. Mo, thank you for inviting me to be a presenter in this series as well. The next episodes are available on YouTube:

You will find a link in the video description to get to know more about upcoming episodes of these licensing series.

There is more…

During the Advent period, each day in December, I will share some thoughts and tips related to the Dynamics 365 user license enforcement. I extended the period for my series of blog posts to the last date of the year. If you have questions about this topic, feel free to contact me via LinkedIn, the comments section below, or the contact form on this blog.
