Dynamics 365 F&O license enforcement status – July 2025

In this blog, I will share my experiences on the license enforcement status after interaction with clients and Microsoft. Microsoft is working hard to solve all reported issues. In the meantime, due to the wrong presentation of data and changes made on the Licenses usage summary page, the clients are still lost or think they need to acquire a lot of additional licenses.

I will explain the current status and how to interpret the new information, like the data on the User license consumption report, and form Licenses usage summary, and also when not to trust the reported data, as there are still errors in the reported license requirement per user. In addition, the standard or duplicated privileges might have wrong settings.

Feature callouts opt out and opt in…

It has been almost two years since Hylke Britstra and I wrote together about feature notifications in Microsoft Dynamics 365 F&O. In case new features are introduced, users can receive a notification with information about new features introduced in a specific version. In this post, I will talk about when and in what environment these notifications are helpful and how to disable them in production environments if you have the requirement to do so.

Help! User license enforcement in Dynamics 365 F&O

Recently, Microsoft announced a blog about Simplifying License Management for Dynamics 365 Finance and Operations, which I shared on LinkedIn, as this post contains a super important update that might impact your Dynamics 365 environment. Microsoft will actively check for users’ valid license assignments when starting the application. Starting May 15, 2025 September 1, 2025, in case the license is not assigned, users will start seeing a warning. As of August 30 November 1, there will be a hard license enforcement. If a user then tries to log in without having a Dynamics 365 license assigned, they will be stopped from accessing the application.

In this post, you will find important information and some tips for becoming license compliant. There were some recent updates in Dynamics 365 F&O and Lifecycle Services (LCS), which will be highlighted.
